Chainmail Pynode
a taste of what a chainmail pynode will produce:
I dropped the idea of doing antialiasing in the texture node itself. It might be faster for some patterns, but is is difficult to write clean code. So just turn on Full OSA in the links and pipeline tab of the material.
NB. The chainmail texture itself was color mixed with voronoi silver material from the blender materials repository, using this noodlei (click on image for a larger view):
